Your bathtub refinishing is an investment — and with the right care, it will look like new for 10 to 15 years. At Pro Tubs LLC, we include a 5-year written warranty with every job, and we want you to get the most out of your new finish. Here is exactly what to do (and what to avoid) after your tub has been reglazed.
Wait Before You Use It
This is the most important step. After your tub has been refinished, give the coating a full 24 to 48 hours to cure before running any water. Running water too soon is the leading cause of premature peeling. We will always tell you the exact wait time before we leave your home.
Use the Right Cleaners
The new coating is durable, but it does not like harsh abrasives. Follow these guidelines:
Do use:
- Mild liquid dish soap (Dawn, etc.)
- Non-abrasive bathroom cleaners (Soft Scrub Gel, Method Bathroom Cleaner)
- A soft cloth or non-scratch sponge
Avoid:
- Abrasive powders like Comet or Ajax
- Steel wool or rough scrubbing pads
- Bleach-based sprays used undiluted
- Magic Erasers (they act as a fine abrasive on coatings)
A gentle wipe-down after each use is all it takes to maintain a brilliant finish.
Prevent Standing Water and Soap Scum
After bathing, rinse the tub thoroughly and give it a quick wipe with a soft cloth. Soap scum and mineral deposits from standing water are the biggest enemies of any refinished surface. In areas with hard water — common throughout Metro Detroit and Southeast Michigan — a squeegee or microfiber cloth after each use makes a big difference.
Watch Out for Sharp Objects
The refinished coating is smooth and glass-like, but it can be scratched by sharp edges. Avoid dragging razor blades, metal tools, or heavy objects across the surface. Place a non-slip bath mat with suction cups rather than a rubber mat that sits flat — standing water under a flat mat can soften the coating over time.
Address Chips Immediately
If a small chip appears, do not ignore it. Water can work its way under the coating around a chip and cause it to spread. Contact Pro Tubs LLC right away — small repairs are quick and inexpensive, and catching them early protects the rest of the finish.

Bathtub refinishing with Pro Tubs LLC costs just $479 flat rate, all inclusive — a fraction of the $2,000–$5,000 that tub replacement would run. With proper care your refinished tub will look great for well over a decade.
